Do you want to attend the 2017 National Apprenticeship Competition and ACRC Picnic in Charlottetown?

If so, the Atlantic Canada Regional Council is holding a contest where you and a guest can win travel, accommodation, and a meal stipend to attend the 2017 NAC and participate in the ACRC Olde Tyme Union Picnic on August 26, 2017.

Here’s how it works: For every union meeting you attend (all regions) and program you participate in (Journeyman Leadership, Site Organizer, assisting union campaigns, etc.) you will earn one ballot in the draw. The more you participate, the more ballots you earn!

In addition, any member who filled out the recent ACRC Membership Survey will automatically get one ballot in the contest.

To help make the day a success, we ask for a minimum volunteer commitment of four hours from each winner to assist with set up / tear down, event support, and other duties as assigned.

Up to forty (40) draws will take place across Atlantic Canada, proportional to membership numbers in each region.

Deadline for all ballots to be received is Thursday, June 15, 2017.

St. John’s Information Demonstration – Friday, Sept. 23

Out-of-province workers continue to work at the Nalcor hydro electric plant turbine overhaul job in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.

In protest of this, another demonstration will occur at the Nalcor Corporate office at 500 Columbus Drive, 10 a.m., Friday, 23 Sept. We will meet in the Nalcor parking lot.

We need to correct this and need workers, regardless of trade or whether union or non-union, to come down and participate in the demonstration.

Grand Falls-Windsor Information Picket

An out of province contractor is employing out of province workers to do the turbine overhaul at the Nalcor hydro electric plant in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL This is work that should be done by local NL workers, especially with a crown corporation. There are many millwrights and other trades that could use the 6-8 months of work.

We have talked to Nalcor and government officials about this, but with no response. As a result, we are staging an information demonstration in GFW to notify the public and pressure change.

Thursday, September 15 – We will be meeting at the Mount Peyton Hotel (214 Lincoln Rd, Grand Falls-Windsor) at 7 p.m. to organize the demonstration.

Friday, September 16 – Set up demonstration at MHA office at 3 Cromer Ave, Grand Falls-Windsor starting at 9 a.m.

We need your help to put out the message that NL workers should be given priority for work in NL.
