Olde Tyme Union Picnic – Saint John, NB

We’re marking Labour Day with a free outdoor BBQ at Fisher Lakes Picnic Area in Rockwood Park on Monday, September 4. We hope you can join us for food, prizes, kids’ activities, skills demonstrations and more! Event starts at 11 a.m. Hope to see you there!

For those members partaking in the Labour Day Parade in Saint John, NB on Monday, the meeting point is at King St. East next to the Loyalist Burial Ground at 11:30 a.m. sharp. 

Following the parade, be sure to drop in to the Olde Tyme Union Picnic, being held at the Fisher Lakes Picnic Area in Rockwood Park for a barbecue, kids’ activities, giveaways, and more!

Charlottetown Olde Tyme Union Picnic coming up soon!

Come join us Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Delta Prince Edward waterfront for a barbecue, prizes, kids’ activities, rock wall, and more! The outdoor picnic event starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.

We are excited to host this event in conjunction with the 2017 UBC National Apprenticeship Competition! Come out and see the best apprentices in the country ply their trade and showcase their skills.

Olde Tyme Union Picnic – Sydney, NS

Our second Olde Tyme Union Picnic of the year is THIS SATURDAY, August 12! We are excited to partner with the Cape Breton Unionized Trades Dragon Boat Festival and will have a ton of activities for everyone, including a BBQ, bouncy castles, skills demonstrations, rock climbing wall, giveaways, and much more! Job Opportunity – Business Representative/Organizer

BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVE/ORGANIZER

The Atlantic Canada Regional Council of Carpenters, Millwrights and Allied Workers (ACRC) has an opening for one (1) Business Representative/Organizer position that will be based in their Halifax, NS office.

Reporting to the Director of Organizing, the Business Representative/Organizer is a self-driven team player who is ambitious, goal-oriented, and focused on delivering results.

DUTIES

The Business Representative/Organizer represents the best interests of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) and actively works to organize unrepresented workers in the carpentry, millwright, and allied trades. S/he is expected to support this mission through seeking out new opportunities to organize individuals and contractors who are not represented. Travel throughout Nova Scotia and to various locations in Atlantic Canada is required.

The successful candidate will maintain proper and orderly records and provide a weekly electronic report to the Director of Organizing.  S/he will work closely and support other Business Representatives/Organizers and staff of the ACRC to ensure a consistent and high level of service is provided to all members of the Council.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate:

  • Is a self-starter who can lead, motivate, and coach others;
  • Possesses exceptional organizing, communication, and strategic skills;
  • Brings many years of experience in the construction industry, preferably as a foreman or site superintendent and be Red Seal Endorsed (RSE);
  • Must be a UBC member in good standing;
  • Is computer literate and familiar with using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.);
  • Has a proven ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment;
  • Can seek out new opportunities to grow the Council with minimum supervision;
  • Brings a unique mix of work history, life experience, and community service to the role;
  • Be willing to undergo a criminal record check as travel to the International Training Center is required.

Local 83 Health and Welfare Meeting

Local 83 will be having a Health and Welfare Meeting to review and evaluate our current Health and Welfare plan.

The Health and Welfare Meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at 6 p.m. at 1000 Sackville Drive in Sackville, NS. The regular monthly meeting will directly follow.

At this meeting, we will have a representative on hand to discuss the changes to the Health and Welfare costs, and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
