Office to Advance Women Apprentices
Supporting opportunities for women in the skilled trades is something Carpenters’ Local 579, Millwrights’ Local 1009, and the Atlantic Canada Regional Council of Carpenters, Millwrights and Allied Workers takes seriously. Through our affiliation with the Office to Advance Women Apprentices (OAWA), we take a proactive approach in increasing employment opportunities and access to apprenticeship programs for women in the trades.
Of course, more work can always be done. This is why OAWA forms strong bonds with not only industry but government and training stakeholders to ensure continued growth of their programs.

International Women’s Day
March 8 marks International Women’s Day, a day where we would like to recognize the achievements of women in the workplace.
We are proud to support and increase the number of training opportunities for women, and actively seek out partnerships with employers and educational and government institutions as we make progress towards gender equality and parity.
International Women’s Day has been globally celebrated since the early 1900’s, when women became collectively more vocal in light of societal oppression and inequality.
